With the current round of international break games now almost at an end, transfer rumour mill news certainly saw a spike in action this last week, and one of the biggest stories doing the rounds concerned Manchester United’s chase for Chelsea and England midfielder Mason Mount.
According to reports, Mount is very high on manager Erik ten Hag’s wish list for the summer and the club have already seen two bids rejected out of hand as they didn’t quite meet Chelsea’s valuation which is said to be more around the £58 million upfront mark, with at least £7 million in potential future add ons for the talented 24 year old.
If reports are to be believed, United have now seen a third bid of £55 million rejected as Chelsea hold firm, however, a follow up bid from the Red Devil’s is now in doubt as they are said to consider the valuation seriously excessive given the 36 capped international only has 12 months left on his existing contract at Stamford Bridge, and talks over an extension have definitely stalled.
Chelsea are believed to be open to an official meeting to resolve the final points of the negotiation though, given how incredible close a deal does look on paper, and for all intents and purposes, personal terms are unlikely to be an issue and it certainly seems that Mount is very open to making the move to Old Trafford.
With Champions League football secured once again for the coming 2023/24 campaign, Ten Hag will definitely want to strengthen his group of players and for very obvious reasons Mason Mount does just that and he would improve the over all quality of the dressing room – and of course, given his age, there is significant room for development still and he obviously has plenty of seasons left in him before he even gets to the prime portion of his career.
Should a deal eventually get done, he would leave Chelsea as a Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup winner having scored 33 goals in a total of 195 appearances across all competitions since making his debut for them back in the 2019 season.
