A January Spend

The conundrum that is the January transfer window is just around the corner.

The buzz on the terraces is that Chelsea need to spend to stand any chance of making a sustained and serious challenge for honours this season.

Although cash was spent in the summer, the consensus of opinion is that it may not have been spent as wisely as it could have been and that there are a few square pegs in round holes in our squad.

But will Chelsea splash the cash in January?

Traditionally, January purchases are risky, clubs make panic buys to try and offer a solution to a problem, a problem that often remains.

Last January, Chelsea smashed the transfer record for a British club by bringing in Fernando Torres (point illustrated) and David Luiz, and in doing so spent a cool £75 million.

This time around, Andre Villas-Boas is being very cautious when it comes to giving any secrets away and when pushed simply had this replay ready for the media,

“I have not spoken about money in January, but money has never been a problem at this club.”

“You saw how we behaved in August, it was different to other clubs, we avoided the first weeks of turmoil. We were stronger at the end of the market and felt we had good deals. We will see.”

No clues there then!
