A New Contract for Jose?

Although last season was a trophy-less season for Chelsea Football Club, it`s fair to say that in a season of transition under Jose Mourinho, we went very close to silverware on two fronts.

With a little more luck we could have won either the Premier League or the Champions League.

This summer, Mourinho was very astute with his summer signings as the club disposed of those it considered to be not part of the plan and recruited players who he believed were essential to make the team complete.

On the field of play we`re currently unbeaten and, although it is very premature to do so, we`re widely tipped to take the Premier League crown this season.

Looking in from the outside, it appears that the Jose that is in charge of us this season is a far more astute and mature character, almost as if travelling Europe collecting silverware had mellowed him somewhat.

Sure, there`s still the odd fiery outburst or two but nothing along the lines of what we witnessed, even thing in recent times a certain French gentleman might consider himself lucky not to have received the odd punch or two.

The second time around Mourinho seems far more content, far more settled and exudes the aura of somebody that has returned to his spiritual home.

Yes, there are pressures on him, the very nature of being the manager of Chelsea Football Club means that silverware is a necessity not a added bonus and a prolonged spell without sticking the odd piece of silverware in the cabinet means all that has gone before counts for nothing.

But the football we`re playing now is sublime; it`s of the quality that Roman Abramovich urged those who have sat in the managerial chair to produce since his love of the game saw him become the owner of the most fashionable club in England.

Therefore, the way things stand, I`m not too surprised that there are reports emanating in the media that steps are afoot to offer the new, mature, less confrontational Jose Mourinho a lucrative new contract to keep at his spiritual home and out of the clutches of Barcelona!
