A new transfer approach is needed.

So three years after his departure Matic is coming back, as Kevin Be Bruyne heads off to Wolfsburg.

I can’t help but question both deals as well as numerous other deals that the club has done recently.

Nemanja Matic has developed into a great player in his time at Benfica and I’m sure he will be a good player for us, but I question why he was sold in the first place and is he a player we really need considering we have Van Ginkel and Romeu?

According to what I’ve read Romeu has made a big impression at Valencia, but I’m guessing he will be the one to make way unless MVG is loaned out. Would it not have been better to get Romeu back next year and have him and MVG battling it out for a first team place as opposed to shelling out £22+ million on Matic?

I’m disappointed that De Bruyne is leaving without really being given a proper chance to show what he’s capable of. £30 million was forked out for Willian but again was he a signing that was really needed?

Yes he’s done very well and is starting to prove his worth, but we already had Mata and De Bruyne and Piazon out on loan who can play in the same position. Piazon is having a great season with Vitesse and his goals and assists have helped take them to top of the table, but will he get a chance at Chelsea or will he be loaned out again in the summer or sold?

Most fans will agree that a new striker is what’s needed most, but I feel if we’d stuck with Sturridge and played him in his preferred position we may not be in that situation now. We are going to have to spend £25+ million in the summer to get in a top striker. Surely we now need to adopt a different approach with transfers? Younger players need time to develop, so instead of just shipping them out when they don’t hit the ground running give them a proper chance to shine.
