It`s twelve years ago today that one of Chelsea`s legends sadly passed away. Peter Osgood, was a name synonymous with all that was good about Chelsea Football Club through the sixties and into the seventies.

Still revered at the Bridge today, ‘Ossie` was a gentleman and an outstanding centre forward. It was a goal from the big man that secured Chelsea`s first FA Cup win back in 1970.

The Official Chelsea Website have a tribute that looks at the original recording of Blue Is The Colour. That song was part of my reason for supporting CFC. As a seven-year-old it must have struck a chord somewhere in my heart that has stayed with me.

I was never lucky enough to meet or see Ossie play. One man who was though, was our very own Merlin. His connection with the club through a club fanzine brought him into contact with Ossie. I hope he won`t mind me linking back to his thoughts on the 1st March 2006. You can read it here.

The following day Merlin wrote a tribute, much better than I could give now. All I can say is, that as a child growing up following Chelsea, Ossie and that group of players were just something special. I`d consider them the first ‘pop star` footballers and not just because of that song. I guess it was that glamour that led that small boy to attach himself to them and the club and despite some dodgy times I`ll be forever grateful for that. RIP Ossie.
