Today has been the official launch of the start of the Premier League Season. Billingsgate Market in London was the location, as media, managers and players gathered to discuss the forthcoming season.

From Chelsea`s point of view, Antonio Conte, Gary Cahill and David Luiz were present at proceedings. Antonio Conte spoke with Sky Sports. When asked about whether there would be more signings he said

“I hope to be able to improve our squad. The transfer market is not finished. We want to be competitive and we want to fight for the title again. The club knows my priorities.”

He batted away any talk of Diego Costa, saying

“The way I think about Costa is the same, I think I was very clear; it’s not important to repeat it.’

On the subject of the Nemanja Matic transfer, he didn`t sound like someone who`d sanctioned the deal. As the Sky article states, he called the Serbs departure “a sad loss”.

When pressed further, he waxed lyrical about his ex-midfielder,

“Matic knows very well what I think about him. The importance for me about this player, who is a really good player, a top player, very important for our team, but
sometimes you must accept this crazy transfer market.”

He finished off with a telling sentence,

“And sometimes you must accept different decisions. But he is a great loss for us.”

Conte tends to be quite a serious character when being interviewed unlike his flamboyant touchline manner, I guess we`ll get a better idea of where his mindset is on Saturday, if Chelsea manage to score a goal.
