Rumours have been circulating that Bolton’s Player’s Player of the Year 2008/09, Gary Cahill is being hunted by Utd and Chelsea.

With demands for more homegrown players and FIFA’s 5/6 rule on the horizon, both teams are clearly looking to poach this future England defender. But it seems our transfer ban has not dampened the spirits of either the scouts or the media as the 6 foot 2 inch 23 year-old looks set for Manchester or London.

Already called up to the England Squad in place of Rio Ferdinand, Cahill has had a mixed career on the pitch. At 15 he was signed to Aston Villa’s academy and spent 7 years there developing and waiting for his first team chance. It came in the form of Martin Laursen’s horrific injury which eventually ended his career. Cahill was able to step up and prove his worth on the big stage.

By the 2008 January transfer window, there were plenty of clubs after Cahill’s signature. He signed for Bolton till the summer of 2011 and has never looked back.

The question is, with JT and Riccy back to their combined best, Alex and Ivanovic adequately able to step in, Mancienne, Bruma and Hutchinson knocking on the door – Is there room for another Central Defender.
