Carlo’s Perfect Diamond?

With the great man’s influence (Carlo) still around at Cobham in this period of change and memories of his two years at Chelsea still in the forefront of many a fan’s mind, I’m going to look at the perfect chance for a Diamond formation, based on our (hopefully) imminent Belgian league signing, Kevin De Bruyne.

The four players in the midfield are:

————Mikel————-

–Ramires——–McEachran—

———De Bruyne———–

Not many people on here are a fan of Mikel but I am. 158 appearances in 5 years in a position dominated by both Makalele and Essien at times (as well as others), shows his ability is known by all our coaches. Hiddink brought him in a first team player after Scolari and it was a great choice. His defensive abilities are actually very solid. He may pass sideways but his supply to the creative midfielders is fantastic. He’s also not afraid to get stuck in properly at either end.

Ramires is another not hugely loved by the Blue faithful. His workrate since joining this season has been second to none. He made 38 appearances with 2 memorable goals in his first year despite a rocky start. Up and down the right wing defensively and offensively is just what we need.

McEachran. Not sure I need to say much more. If he’s played in this role, similar to Lampard’s position in the middle 3 of a 4-3-3 formation, he won’t have to worry about his DM duties and he can concentrate on his glorious balls through to our strikers.

De Bruyne, to finish it off. He’s shown great talent as both provider and scorer. Would be the new Lampard, Sneijder, Scholes, Gerrard. You name it, he’ll be the new one.

85 years between them. An average of just 21.25 years for our midfield diamond.

Knock it all you want, but I think this is a very exciting middle 4.
