Chelsea Got Exactly What They Deserved Against Liverpool

I purposely left it until this morning before I commented on what we witnessed against Liverpool.

To say the performance disappointed, me is an understatement.

I would go so far as to say it was awful!

I have followed Chelsea through thick and thin and I do not think I have ever seen a performance that was so negative.

It was almost as if Chelsea were scared to have a go at a Liverpool side who, the previous week, against Leeds United had looked fragile at the back.

There was no passion on display and our sole intention appeared to be defend in numbers.

Indeed, we sat so deep we were almost in the Matthew Harding Stand lower tier at times in the first half.

Of course, our cause was not helped when we were reduced to 10-men and then Kepa made his obligatory horrific error he has a penchant to make at least once a game.

But it was awful.

The manner in which it seemed mandatory for the keeper to invite two defenders into his area to start a move baffled me, it left us allowing Liverpool to press us deep in our own half.

Now we could look at the Jorginho penalty miss as a chance to get back into the game but Liverpool, at that stage, were coasting and would only have gone through the gears to open up a two-goal lead again.

We may point to several of our new signings not being available, but we approached the game with the wrong mindset.

I would rather we had gone at Liverpool all guns blazing and lost 5-3, at least we would have put on a show!
