Chelsea – Long Live The King, Long Live Frank Lampard

In the last week or so, perhaps the most scurrilous piece of news I stumbled across related to the future of Frank Lampard as the Chelsea manager.

Although our start to the 2020 / 2021 season has not been as strong as we had hoped for, I found it disturbing that speculation was increasing that Roman Abramovich was already eyeing up a successor to Frank.

In my article – chelsea-lampard-out-allegri-in-speculation – I suggested it would be a big mistake to follow the hire-them-and-fire them managerial policy that the club has employed since Roman became its owner.

My view was that now was the time to allow somebody, in this case, Frank, to build a new side and create a dynasty, just as Manchester United did with Sir Alex Ferguson.

If time was required to do so, then that was something that Frank should be granted.

In my original article, I included a poll to try and gauge your opinion, I wanted to know if you were sat on my side of the fence or that of the journalists that were suggesting Allegri was headed to Stamford Bridge.

I worded my poll question as thus:

Talk Of Frank Lampard Being Axed Is?

and left three choices for you to ponder over:

• Absurd
• Par for the Course
• Deserved

Thankfully, the majority of those that voted agreed with me with 50% going for the ABSURD option.

A further 21% cottoned on to the fact that as far as the media are concerned it was PAR FOR THE COURSE.

But worryingly, 29% thought that the speculation, following our start to the season, was DESERVED.

Whatever happened to patience and building the foundations for a decade of success?
