Romelu Lukaku trained with the Chelsea first team at Cobham for the first time today, despite not yet officially completing his transfer from Anderlecht.

The 18-year-old returned from international duty to meet up with his soon-to-be new team mates as they prepared for the opening game of the Premier League campaign this weekend.

However, Lukaku will play no part against Stoke City on Sunday after admitting a delay in finalising the deal on his website. ‘Please note that no official presentation and no press conference will take place in Chelsea this week,’ a statement said.

The suggestion is that both clubs are waiting on vital paperwork to be completed on the deal, rather than anything more sinister, like Anderlecht demanding more money for their prized young forward.

However, with Fernando Torres suffering from concussion after Spain’s defeat in Italy last night, and Daniel Sturridge suspended for the season opener, Andre Villas-Boas is slightly more stretched in attack than he might have hoped for his baptism of fire at the Brittania.
