After ending the search for a new third choice keeper by signing Magnus Hedman on a short-term contract, the Swedish stopper has already enjoyed a spell between the sticks for his new club.

It transpires, that with many players away on international duty, Chelsea arranged a friendly against Crystal Palace featuring those players who were not involved in international action coupled with a sprinkling of youth and reserve team players.

However, the Chelsea line up had a strong backbone with Hedman in goal, Mikel Jon Obi in midfield and Andriy Shevchenko up front.

Indeed, it must have been quite a shock for the visiting Palace side to find that one of the best strikers in the world was lined up to play against them.

Shevchenko didn’t disappoint scoring twice for Chelsea in a convincing 3-1 win in a work out that served its purpose. Hedman would have possibly been disappointed not to keep a clean sheet but in his first semi-competitive game for eighteen months would have been glad to get back into the old routine.

Indeed, since joining Chelsea, Hedman has been remarkably impressed by the team spirit shown by the squad. The fact that everyone gets on together and that there are no divas has suggested to Hedman that this squad is above all others he’s been fortunate to work with.

Hedman has also been quick to heap praise on Mourinho suggesting that he is great at being able to cross the great divide between being the boss and also a friend. With regard to his short-term contract, Hedman has every intention of putting in sufficient work to obtain an extension. However, with Petr Cech to return to training in the New Year opportunities for Hedman may become few and far between as the season reaches a climax.

Returning to the great team spirit, Hedman has no qualms about standing up in front of the squad to sing a song. Indeed, Hedman has already selected Lionel Richie’s – All Night Long – and is probably set to give a performance that may shock the squad.

Seemingly, Hedman has the added advantage of having sung live on Swedish television in an Abba tribute show!
