Chelsea Voted Against VAR Introduction Next Season Suggestion

|

VAR remains a controversial subject.

Designed to assist referees with making the correct decision, its introduction hasn’t been as smooth as hoped for.

Now whether it’s the human reaction to change kicking in or just the methodology not quite being right, I’ll leave you to judge.

However, despite FIFA agreeing to use it at the forthcoming 2018 World Cup, in Russia, it won’t be used in the Premier League during the 2018 / 2019 season.

At a meeting of Premier League clubs, its introduction was vetoed.

However, although VAR will, no doubt, become common-place in the future, it appears that Chelsea were one of the clubs who were against its introduction next season.

The popular tabloid publication, the Mirror, carries some wonderful quotes, from the Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, quotes which would seem to confirm Chelsea’s rejection of the process, quotes which read,

“I think Manchester City agreed to it but the other top teams, United and Chelsea, didn’t want it.

“It’s okay, it will happen though. Not just here in England, all around the world, the referees must be helped. Today the football is quicker, it’s faster.

Indeed, it is, but until we can introduce an error free system, surely it is better to stick with what we have and not introduce further controversy via technological gaffes.
