Could Conte Spring a Surprise at Wembley?

|

And go with two up front!

That could well be the case following Chelsea’s 2-1 victory, against Burnley, on Thursday night, when Conte chose to start with both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata.

Talking to the media, as reported by the BBC, about the prospect of playing two up-front, in a change of formation, Conte remarked, following the successful trip to Turf Moor,

“In the past it was very difficult for me to try this option with the two strikers.

“But they showed a great link and a great combination, and at the same time they worked very hard for the team.

“Our strikers created a lot of difficulties for the central defenders and we surprised Burnley.

“To see Giroud and Morata play this way gives me satisfaction. It’s an option, for Sunday or maybe for the future.”

However, the ploy didn’t extend to the full ninety minutes with Conte choosing to replace Morata with Eden Hazard during the second-half, a change that took place just after Morata had missed a one-on-one with the Burnley keeper Tim Pope.

After being hauled off, Morata angrily reacted prompting Conte to remark about his record signing,

“Alvaro must be angry.

“He had a chance to score and if you score you change the confidence.

“I thought he was angry he was substituted because of this miss but I am very pleased with him. I thought it was better to put fresh strength on with Hazard.”

It was a move that contributed to Chelsea’s victory with Hazard bringing something extra to Chelsea’s play, holding the ball up whilst also looking a lot more dangerous.

But, what about Wembley, on Sunday, would you start with both Giroud and Morata?
