Courtois for Costa? Your Thoughts!

So, the Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea have come to an agreement with Atletico Madrid which will see the 25 year old marksman Diego Costa join us at the Bridge while the young Belgian will make his loan spell at Atletico permanent. The original report can be found here Click Here

This is an interesting story but, on a personal note, I can’t see this happening. Chelsea would be foolish to let go of Courtois, a talent who could serve us for years to come. He’s a class act and I stand by my view that he should be our Number 1 goalkeeper next year. Diego Costa is not the only top class striker in the world and I’m not actually convinced he’d make it in the Premier League. His form has been undeniably good in La Liga but their game is so different to ours and I’m not sure he’d have the physical capacity to cope.

To me, the more logical swap deal would have been Mata for Cavani. PSG had reportedly been after Mata for months and the French League is a damn sight better than Manchester. As well as this, the transfer of Mata would hopefully slap the prying fingers of PSG off young Eden Hazard. Cavani has ‘struggled’ for PSG and hasn’t, so far, been able to recreate that magical form he terrorized defences with for Napoli. But that’s off the cards now and we’d have to fork out horrible amounts of money to prise the Uruguayan away from the Parisians.

That’s my two cents worth on what I’ve heard. Chelsea have been linked with Costa quite pertinently recently and so I thought I’d discuss it on here. I still have this awful feeling that whichever ‘top class’ striker ends up at the Bridge will come under intense, media-driven scrutiny, go 16 minutes without scoring and then be labelled by Graeme Souness for the rest of his career as ‘another example of Mourinho’s destructive influence on real footballing talent’.

What do you guys think about this potential swap deal? Wise investment? Short sighted? Do we already have what we need up front? Never going to happen? Bearing in mind we sold Juan Mata to United, anything is possible!

Up the Blues!
