That Chelsea are one of the richest and biggest clubs in world football is not in doubt.

Also, that such fabled riches include, amongst others, a burgeoning football academy nearly bursting at the seams with talents and a plethora of potential world beaters(over twenty starlets) scattered all over the continent on loan is no news.

What’s news however is the intimation by the Evening Standard Monday evening that Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing a new long-term contract with one of our world class on-loan talents, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, that will see the youngster double up and pocket a cool £60,000-a-week over the next five years.

Currently on £30,000-a-week, Courtois, 21, who is about to complete his very successful third year on loan at Spanish capital outfit Atletico Madrid has been in fine form throughout his loan spells in Spain with last season seeing him come close to what looked like the peak of his abilities in La Liga, when he won the Zamora Award – an individual award for best goalkeepers in Spanish football.

This season however, the Belgium No.1 has taken it up a notch with his many saves and clean sheets propelling the Rojiblancos to the summit of the Liga standings – their first time in decades – and the quarterfinal of the Champions League.

And in what is sure to cause wild jubilation in some segment of the Blues faithful, these achievements have obviously not gone unnoticed by the Chelsea decision-makers, prompting the front office to sanction a 100% pay rise, with high-ranking executive board member Marina Granovskaia believed to be personally overseeing negotiations.

Surely you know anything Granovskaia is serious business, no?

Anyway, trust Vital Chelsea to bring to you more details on this as they unfurl.
