The Chelsea career of Asier Del Horno could be about to take a turn for the worse.

According to the morning tabloids, Chelsea have instructed three agents, who strangely aren?t named, to seek a buyer for the Spanish left back. The report even suggests that Chelsea are prepared to take a substantial loss on the transfer fee to move the defender on.

Asier arrived in a blaze of publicity last summer suggesting that the financial offer made to him was so good he?d be foolish not to come to Chelsea. With Wayne Bridge still recuperating from the horrific injuries picked up at Newcastle, the road was clear for Asier to make an impact in the starting eleven.

A headed goal at Spurs immediately endeared him to the supporters but Mourinho was strangely reticent to play the Spaniard on a regular basis citing the fact that Spanish footballers do not normally play twice a week. Perhaps the first seeds of doubt were sown when Wayne Bridge returned for the Carling Cup tie against Charlton.

Then came the red card against Barcelona when a collision with Lionel Messi effectively ended Chelsea?s Champions League campaign. However, with Wayne Bridge going on loan to Fulham there appeared to be further opportunity for Asier to cement his place in the stating eleven. Sadly, his inconsistency was to see him withdrawn on numerous occasions.

Whilst there were no doubt occasions where he rose to the challenge there were other times, when the young Spaniard was hauled off very early on and appeared to incur the wrath of his manager. If the tabloid reports are true then one of the three proposed summer signings Chelsea intend to make could be a left back.

Wayne Bridge is reportedly a target for both Fulham (if they can afford him) and also Spurs. If both Bridge and Del Horno were to leave this summer, Chelsea would be left without a recognised left back.

If that were to be the scenario the tabloid hacks would, no doubt, have a field day once again linking us to a certain Ashley Cole, currently plying his trade for Cashburden Grove bound, Arsenal.
