Borussia Dortmund have admitted they are unsure whether Chelsea target, Ilkay Gundogan will commit his future to them.

The German side who are also trying to fend off interests from usual suspects Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid in their prized asset are desperate to keep hold of him given that they know Robert Lewandowski will leave on a free transfer in the summer.

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke admits he does not know if Gundogan will sign a new deal at the club.

He said:

“It is our absolute desire that besides Robert Lewandowski no other regular player leaves the club.

“Only in the case of Ilkay Gundogan, we do not yet know how it will turn out. We would love to extend (a contract) with him.”

The 23-year-old Germany international of Turkish descent who has just 18 months to run on his current contract has long been linked with us, amongst the other named clubs; and confirmation that Dortmund fear he could leave will definitely inspire confidence that a deal could be done for around £25m – an affordable price if you ask me – according to the grapevine, if the playmaking central midfielder indeed decides against signing a contract extension.

Reports in Spain had earlier suggested that a swap deal involving the Gelsenkirchen-born Gundogan and Nuri Sahin had already been agreed with Real Madrid, who own the latter who’s on loan with the Bundesliga outfit; but the former`s father denies that any such arrangement is in place.

So, a good time for Chelsea to swoop for the midfield magician?

Is he the regista Chelsea has been missing since Michael Ballack and Deco?

You decide…and perhaps Mourinho too.
