|

At Stamford Bridge, on Friday evening, Chelsea’s imperious march towards a fifth consecutive FA Youth Cup Final triumph continued.

Cheered on by the largest crowd the youngsters will have played in front of in this competition this season, the Chelsea youngsters beat a talented Arsenal side 3-1.

But, the youngsters didn’t have it all their own way having to come back from a goal down when, in the first-half, a superb pass from Emile Smith-Rowe allowed Xavier Amaechi to score the first goal Chelsea had conceded in the competition this season.

Chelsea went into the half-time break trailing 1-0, but some wise words from their coach, Jody Morris, saw the youngsters put on a far better second-half performance.

The equaliser came in the 66th minute when Daishawn Redan, on as a substitute, scored. Back on level terms, Chelsea led for the first time in the tie when a cross from Reece James was headed home by Marc Guehi.

Looking by far the more dominant side, Chelsea scored a third, when Redan netted again and Redan could have scored another but when the striker was well place he somehow managed to fire his shot over the bar.

But it’ll be Chelsea who are the far happier side as they contemplate the second-leg, on Monday night, at the Emirates Stadium.
