I never like stories like this, I just think they tempt fate! However, our midfield general Frank Lampard has said although his selection is totally down to Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, he doesn’t want to be rested once he breaks the record for consecutive appearances in the Premiership.

Lampard, who equalled the record of 159 games set by David James last weekend in the 3-0 victory against Newcastle, now has the chance to go one better against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on November 26th.

Lampard said: ‘That is the manager’s decision. But I don’t want to be rested. I don’t like to miss games, but that depends on form and fitness. Even going for the record the manager was not going to pick me or not pick me on the strength of the record. He does it on what is good for the team.’

He also says that he never set out to break the long standing record adding: ‘I am proud of it. But sometimes more has been said of it than I feel about it. And people use it if I don’t have a good game, saying I am tired, whereas the fact is sometimes I don’t have a good game.’
