I get the feeling, and I`m probably not alone, the media are somewhat disappointed that Chelsea haven`t axed Antonio Conte yet.

After the humiliating 4-1 defeat, at Vicarage Road, the press vultures were poised to swoop, ready to peck away at the carcass of the Italian`s final few months in charge of Chelsea Football Club.

However, thankfully, the board has stood firm and continued to back Conte, with the inference being that now isn`t the time for a change, even more so with Chelsea still in the top four of the Premier League, still in the FA Cup and also preparing to shock Europe and knock Barcelona out of the Champions League.

But, bearing that in mind, you never for one moment believed that the talk of Conte being sacked would disappear altogether did you?

Well no is the answer I reckon is being muttered right now.

Today, one of the very well respected British news sources, The Times, has come up with an article that continues to look at the negative aspects of our season.

This source is suggesting that if our fortunes continue to plunge and Chelsea`s hopes of silverware collapse dramatically, then the axe will fall on Conte.

But, with the preferred managerial candidate, Luis Enrique, refusing to end his year-long sabbatical early, Chelsea would need, as has become the custom in recent years, to appoint a caretaker manager.

Our source, is championing the suggestion that the man identified to fill that role could be Marco Silva.

Silva, who did his utmost to prevent Hull City being relegated last season, just failing, was in charge of Watford earlier this season and guided the Hertfordshire side to their best start to a Premier League season for many-a-year.

Unfortunately, his feats attracted the attention of Everton, who were looking to replace the axed Ronald Koeman. But Watford weren`t willing to let their manager go and with his ambitions dented, Silva saw his reign at Vicarage drifting, results suffered, and he was recently axed.

However, Silva is highly respected in the game and if the worst come to the worst could come into, like our source suggests, consideration.

But, although Silva has ambitions of managing a big club, you have to ponder whether he`d seriously be interested in a caretaker role knowing the ultimate prize is waiting for somebody else?
