Mourinho ? Top Boy Again!

Only a matter of just over a week ago Mourinho delivered a broadside to those who seem intent on ignoring his special status.

Following on from the title winning victory over Manchester United, Mourinho, clearly and quite rightly feeling hard done by, remarked,

?During the season, I thought a couple of times of close the door and say goodbye at the end of the season. This is the worst club in the world to manage but I am very happy because this club is a special club.?

?Earlier this season, I won nine consecutive matches but I never, never, never won Manager of the Month. At Chelsea you are not recognised!?

Thankfully, on Monday, Mourinho was recognised by those who select the recipients of the awards. For the second year running Jose has won the Barclays Manager of the Year Award.

Shamefully, during the weeks building up to the decision, some form of canvassing was being carried out on behalf of other candidates, most notably, Alan Pardew and Paul Jewell.

Whilst not wishing to knock the achievements of those two gentlemen, only us British would ever dream of not selecting the best in his profession to receive the award.

Pardew and Jewell may have done exceedingly well to cement their club?s positions in the Premiership but that isn?t the benchmark of success. The ultimate aim of all those participating in the Premiership should be to win it.

Mouirnho, in the short two seasons he has been at Chelsea has managed to do that on both occasions, often with the media haranguing him for the smallest misdemeanour.

Our rivals may harp on about the money invested in the club but they are only showing their lack of knowledge when it comes to recognising what goes on behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking about receiving his award, Mourinho was gracious enough to accept that it was an individual award that belonged to a collective. He also paid tribute to Pardew and Jewell for their achievements but deep down you just had this feeling that Mourinho knew, after his remarkable run at Chelsea, that this award was meant for him.

No Manager of the Month awards but taking the Manager of the Season Award is akin to winning the Premiership after occasionally seeing someone else lead it.

Our congratulations go to the Special One on his success. Here?s hoping next year sees a repeat performance.
