New Year, New Targets

As the New Year hits us and I realise that it`s been a good few months since I posted an article, the dear-old favourite “Transfer News” is back on my daily internet schedule and therefore I deem it time to add my wish-list to the equation.

It appears to me that the media and also the fans are always on the lookout for the next this or that, even today I`ve seen an article title referring to our own McEachran being the next Liam Brady. He`s not and he won`t be. Sorry to burst your bubble any Brady fans out there or fans glad to hear him compared to a great but the likelihood is Josh McEachran will be the new Josh McEachran.

So with Wonderkids as the current bestsellers (or not as we would be led to believe as Pato and Neymar still haven`t signed) it seems we`re constantly linked to new potential stars. With half the young Brazilians being compared to Zidane it seems obvious that we should be buying them no?

No.

We have seen time and time again that some players are not cut out for this league. When you look at the signings, year in year out, who make a difference for the team they join, they have usually been signed from an existing PL club. The experience, the knowledge of the league, knowing how hard it can get with the weather/physicality/pace of our game is key for new signings. We`ve seen how Ramires and other new signings for teams can`t cope.

That old cliché of giving someone a season before they come good is pathetic. We wouldn`t buy them and put them in the first team if they weren`t good enough so why then give them the excuse of a season.

What I`m basically trying to say is that we should be forgetting about the new wonderkids and anyone else who looks like they`re going to be the next whatever. We should be concentrating on decent players in our own league now. The money has clearly been reduced. With Citeh spending as much as they want, we can`t compete for the big names. There are enough players doing the job against us week in, week out that we should be looking at for squad players. There are many that have been highlighted by our members here but below I put forward a name not everyone will be thinking of.

Marc Albrighton

KAKUfrank spoke about the need for a new right-back in our team as Ferreira continues to look useless and Bosingwa seems uninterested. His proposition of VDW is a good one but I`m looking closer to home at a player even younger already with experience and goals in the PL. He even managed to assist the late equaliser on Sunday after coming on off the bench. The fact he can play RW as well as RB and he`s English mean that £20million spent on him would be money very well spent.

s KAKUfrank suggested, Iva and JT are likely to be the CB pairing whilst Alex is out. With Albrighton operating as a mirror image of Ashley Cole, we can damage opponents from both sides of the pitch. With 4 goals and 3 assists from 14 games this season and at only 21, this kid could be a definitive answer to our problems.

Anyways, let me know what you make of this kid. Do you rate him as highly as I do? Which other English talents should we be looking at?
