This afternoon, in this weekend’s lunchtime kickoff, seventh-place Liverpool will ‘welcome’ league leaders Chelsea in a crunch match over at Anfield – our nouveau stomping ground of sorts.

While the Blues who sit four points clear of the chasing pack at the summit of the Premier League log will be seeking to cement their enviable position via the small matter of a win right before the Kop, the Scousers led by a certain Brendan Rodgers on their part will most likely be approaching the match with revenge on their minds, having been beaten 2-0 by Jose Mourinho’s boys in this corresponding fixture last time out; will the Northern Irishman start the team that lost 1-0 to Newcastle last weekend, made up of the core he controversially rested against Real Madrid on the continent? Or will he go with his £115m ‘B team’ who rather galantly held the European champions to a 1-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, effectively stopping Cristiano Ronaldo from scoring? Find out from 13:45 BST.

Liverpool legend and pundit, Michael Owen, previewing the match on Betvictor.com, has had his say and is of the opinion that Steven Gerrard and co. are likely to slip up again against the rampaging Blues.

“It is well documented that Liverpool are struggling for goals and I don`t expect to see many against the unbeaten title favourites”, the ex-England international wrote on Betvictor.com.

“After Saturday`s game at Anfield Chelsea will have played both Merseyside and Manchester Clubs away from home and, one could argue, their most difficult PL games for the rest of the season will be played in or around the capital.

“Jose Mourinho will be well aware of this and the current 8/1 at BetVictor about Chelsea going through the current PL season unbeaten is likely to be much shorter if, as I expect, they get a result at Anfield.”

Well what can I say, Mike, other than perhaps *in Rafa Benitez’s voice* You’ll Never Walk Alone with those lovely expectations of yours?!
