The news that Steven Gerrard won the PFA Player of the Year award was greeted with delight by purchasers of football memorabilia.

Indeed, our own roving reporter was approached by an unnamed collector who voiced his own personal delight after news filtered through to those waiting outside the venue.

Apparently, he?d been pleased that John Terry had received this prestigious award last year but felt that he had no chance of procuring the trophy whilst it was in JT?s possession.

When quizzed further, our roving reporter discovered that our collector had narrowly been beaten, on an Internet site auction, to the Istanbul Champions League Winners medal that mysteriously appeared, and was subsequently sold, on the well known site.

Whilst acknowledging that the particular item did not belong to Steven Gerrard he felt that there may a small chance that an unlikely source within Anfield may be able to snaffle it and stick it on the aforementioned web site.

When contacted, with regard to this exclusive, Liverpool Football Club refused to comment and slammed the phone down when reminded about the Istanbul Champions League medal.

Furthermore, we?d like to dismiss claims that a further four Istanbul winners medals will soon be appearing on the well-known auction site. Apparently, they?re reluctant to post them for possible auction in case it sparks a long, monotonous chant of,

?From Istanbul, we?ve sold em? five times.?
