With some playing 36 Premier League games in the 2016/17 season, this year could see a record number of players break the 20 goal mark.
With goalscoring so far this season, the Golden Boot race is set to be the most competitive in the last 20 years and if six players break that magical 20 mark this year it will be for the first time since the 1994/95 season.
And that’s important because back then the Premier League was a 42 match division.
The reduction in games is worth noting because the Premier League has only registered five or more players scoring 20 or over on three occasions – six in 1993/94 and 1994/95 with 42 games, and then five in 2009/10.
In contention for this year’s Golden Boot are Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero but with the games remaining now you would think Dele Alli would now be out of the running, along with anybody below him in the table.
But there are enough games left for the table below to change so we’ll just have to see what happens.
