Rooney or Bust!

As OLASAL has stated in his excellent article entitled Faith, Chelsea are to be commended for the manner in which they`ve conducted their transfer business recently.

Yesterday, there may well have been a few journalists (if they had a conscience) eating a huge slice of humble pie after it became public knowledge that we hadn`t made any bids for players this summer apart those already acquired and Wayne Rooney.

There were no bids for Cavani and no bids for Falcao, everything you read in the press was the output of a journalist keen to fill a void and, at the same time, increase the readership levels of their associated news vehicle.

Over in Bangkok, Jose`s speech about wanting Wayne Rooney (the last piece of the jigsaw) was a master-class for anyone wanting to put the tabloid press in their place. They (the press) now know that anything they print relating to a bid for anyone other than Rooney will be instantly dismissed.

But, I have to ask, are we playing a dangerous game by declaring that it is Rooney or bust and that all our eggs are now in the one basket. Well perhaps we are, but at least Rooney, who is clearly unhappy at Old Trafford, knows there is an alternative, but just as competitive, home for his talents.

But, returning to those comments made by Mourinho after the 1-0 win over Singa All-Stars, courtesy of a penalty scored by Romelu Lukaku, Jose remarked,

“The situation is clear now because nothing is a secret anymore.”

“United knows we want the player and he has to know we made a bid for him.”

“Now we`ve nothing more to say. You have to respect United.”

“So from now on, I won`t say one more word about Wayne Rooney because you all know we want him.”

Indeed, the world does now know and we`re all set for what could be a fascinating few weeks!
