Chelsea in Seattle

Maybe it’s because I’m on Twitter now, or because we won the Champions League perhaps, but there seems to be more hype about Chelsea’s visit to Seattle this time. Could be that Social Media has helped spread the word!

Personally, I was delighted that the day before leaving for Seattle my Champions of Europe Tee Shirt arrived. Pub wear sorted then! News from Chelsea Vancouver of times and dates of meet ups add to the excitement.

The weather forecasts keep changing, so packed from rain wear to shorts! Might be right then!

Tuesday: smooth sailing on the Clipper from Victoria – BCs capital, Seattle. After checking in to the hotel we headed to Fados Seattle. It’s an Irish pub – they had a Chelsea shirt in the window, and the same location we all met in 2009.

Met some fans from all over the USA, and walked with 2 USA fans to the stadium for the training session. Not many UK people, and although there must have been 3 times the number of fans to watch Chelsea, they were very silent. I wanted to sing! .. Standing ovation when Robbie came on.. he acknowledged the fans – what a class act!

Lots of applause for the team as they came on, Malouda trained on his own, wonderful to see all the new faces, impression was how YOUNG our team is now! Sharp contrast with Robbie in charge – he was in Chelsea kit, and his assistant – on the pitch watching every move.

Back to the pub after. Frank Sinclair, Paul Canoville & Neil Barnett. Lots of singing of our favourite Chelsea songs, and chat from Frank, Paul and Neil at the front. Met up with a couple of Vancouver fans, traded twitter names, and had a fabulous Chelsea time.

Game Day and time for some retail therapy! On the way one fan came up to me at the traffic lights held his cell phone to my ear, which was belting out a Chelsea tune! Then to Fados to meet up with the Vancouver Supporters Club, our Vancouver Chelsea flag was up and we had a corner of the pub ! Guinness was flowing as we all sang Carefree, Celery and all the Chelsea chants. Off to Fanzone and photo with those lovely trophies, free stuff and find our seats up in the Gods at the end behind the goal, not sold out game but 53k in attendance. We did our best to sing but drowned out by the Sounders noise and band! So many new faces in Chelsea shirts, we were all writing names and shirt numbers on the programmes. Exciting times…

Loved the goals, and passing movements. What really struck me was the incredible ball control of our new young players. Very talented. The season promises to be exciting. Challenging for RDM, as he has to make a smooth, goal machine out of this incredible talent..

Icing on the cake was getting to meet Roberto Di Matteo, unplanned whilst dining at a restaurant overlooking Pike Place Market. He was with Graeme Le Saux, and they both came to chat and Graeme offered to take a photo. Robbie is a class Manager and I know Chelsea has the best man for the job.

It was exciting to see Chelsea, worth the trip, but my heart yearns for the Bridge – and I’ll be there in October! This time I will do the Stadium Tour, shop till I drop in the Megastore, and have a beer with those twitter friends that offered! Oh and watch my Chelsea play football!
