Second Coming – The New Stamford Bridge

As the whole world (permit me some journalistic license), or at least the blue part of the world erupted in various degree of ecstasy or joy (depending on your level of attachment to the club) on the appointment of Jose.

I was keen to re-confirm what exactly was posted on the CFC website and was not to surprised to read

‘Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Jose Mourinho as FIRST TEAM MANAGER”

Now I know for a certainty, that being a first team manager is radically different from being the coach of a football club. As a first team manager, Mourinho is only expected to manager his first team squad and deliver results.

Yes he can oversee other aspects like the youth team, recommend the recruitment of new players but cannot and does not have anywhere near the same powers he had before.

Also included in his contract is the fact that he can only bring in a fixed number of assistants unlike the first time when he brought in over 15 staff that had to be paid off at huge cost to Roman.

From all indications, not only have his powers been extensively curtailed, from all indications, he has to develop a synergy with Emenalo in order for his recommendations or requests to get to the board or Roman.

It seems Roman is determined not to give Mourinho so much power this time and has ensured that there are numerous checks and balances this time around.

Whether he likes it or not Emenalo is there to stay and as a superior, Lochillion (apologies if I got the name wrong) and the other backroom staff are going no-where.

In short, Mourinho is not going to have it as he wants again. The fact that Mourinho accepted this contract in the first place makes me a little bit apprehensive but I would want to believe that he is determined to re-build his image and create a lasting dynasty.

Mourinho is back and I for one, I am very glad. An end has come to all the permutations and calculations to get to 4th place in the League. An end has come to mediocrity and lack of effort in the team. An end has come to uncertainty or losing matches in the last 5 minutes of a game after taking 1-0, or 2-0 leads.

Yes the King is back….. But Alas, His Kingdom is not the same as he left it years back.

Welcome to the NEW BRIDGE
