Spurs vs Chelsea Pundits Predictions

With last season`s top two teams about to renew their rivalry, as Spurs and Chelsea meet up at Wembley Sunday afternoon, you can make your prediction in our current poll.

As is now well documented Chelsea had a stinker of a first half against Burnley last week. Although a positive fightback in the second half with ten, then nine men gave some hope for the rest of this campaign. With neither team wanting to lose Sunday`s game may well be tight and tactical. The experts have begun to have their say on proceedings.

Ex-Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson – This is Tottenham’s first Premier League game at Wembley but it will not be quite the test that people were expecting when the fixtures came out. I just think Chelsea are all over the place, as we saw against Burnley last week. They are without suspended duo Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas after their red cards against the Clarets and Eden Hazard is not ready to return from injury yet. Pedro and Tiemoue Bakayoko are also injured and there is no end in sight to the Diego Costa saga either, with the striker still in Brazil. The situation with him is just absurd.
So I am going to go for a Spurs win – if I am right, then Chelsea really are in crisis, aren’t they?

They won`t be in crisis, but we don`t really want to be giving teams like Spurs a head start, in the title chase.

Michael Owen – The first-ever PL game played at Wembley Stadium and it will be impossible for Spurs to improve on their remarkable unbeaten home record last season at White Hart Lane. Indeed, Spurs have won 14 home PL games on the spin and will break their club record if they can beat the Champions on Sunday. Antonio Conte will have to do without both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas through suspension and, make no mistake, this is a huge game for both clubs even at this early stage of the season. Spurs have only won one of their last nine games at Wembley – but I expect them to double that tally with Harry Kane to score his 100th goal for Spurs.

Paul Merson –
Chelsea won’t lose here. I think both teams will be more than happy with a draw. You have to remember that the last thing Tottenham want to do is lose this game – their first at Wembley this season – and Chelsea can’t afford to lose a second game on the bounce. Both teams will be nervous and I think it will be quite cagey. If not a draw I would probably go Chelsea. I was not impressed with Tottenham at Newcastle, I thought they were poor.

Sadly for Chelsea, Merse is not the best predictor of football matches. So three pundits, two predict a Spurs win and one goes for the draw. Which shall see at 4pm Sunday afternoon.
