Next game for Chelsea

Chelsea got off to a flier at the Bet365 stadium, despite the absence of Eden Hazard. Chelsea wasted no time in taking the game to their opponents. Good work by Tiemoue Bakayoko breaking up play had the Blues on for a, now famous, counter-attack. A through ball by, captain for the day, Cesar Azpilicueta, found Alvaro Morata on the left side of the penalty area, where he unleashed a right footed shot across the keeper and into the bottom right-hand corner just two minutes into the game. Morata puts to bed the theory that he can only score with his head. That`s four goals and two assists in six premier league starts for Spaniard.

Despite going a goal behind Stoke reacted well and retained good possession without really threatening Chelsea`s solid backline. Chelsea were good enough to up their game and as they came back into it more a mistake by Darren Fletcher saw the lead doubled. Stoke`s captain tried to chest the ball back to his own keeper, but didn`t put enough on it, and Pedro was allowed to nip in and fire past Butland.

A good half of football by both teams but for Stoke there was no end product, Chelsea had just two shots, both on target, both in the back of the net, clinical. For their trouble the Potters mustered five shots, none of which troubled Thibaut Courtois` goal. Half time and Chelsea led 2-0.

Into the second period and there were no substitutes made by either side. Stoke stepped things up from the off, first player into the referee`s notebook was Shaqiri for a challenge on Andreas Christensen that the ref called as foul, Shaqiri disagreed and was booked for dissent.

Minutes later Marcos Alonso was involved in a tussle with Mame Diouf, in which the Spaniard believed he been caught, nothing was given. Shortly after Alonso was given a yellow card for a heavy tackle. Alonso, clearly wound up continued, clipped Diouf again by which time Antonio Conte had seen enough. Alonso was taken off, before the red mist he was seeing resulted in a red card. Sensible from Conte, following a gaggle of red cards for the Blues recently. Gary Cahill was his replacement.

Shortly before the substitution N`golo Kante also found himself with a yellow card after a series tackles flying in from both sides. With 61 minutes on the clock, Mark Hughes called on the big man, Peter Crouch, he entered the fray replacing Jese. Good move by Hughes as Chelsea often struggle against tall strikers.

Tibo was in the wars, following a corner which he punched clear before falling awkwardly and appearing to be knocked out. He wasn`t and was OK to carry on. Goalscorer Pedro was substituted with 20 minutes remaining and was applauded off by the away support. Cesc Fabregas slotted into midfield. Shortly after, Eden Hazard had another run out as he looks to regain full match fitness, replacing Willian. The appearance of Crouch had re-energised Stoke, but it was Chelsea`s celebrated new son, Alvaro Morata who got the away fans singing his name, and just his name. Stoke lost the ball in Chelsea`s half and Morata ran at the Stoke team before slotting the ball home from a tight angle past Jack Butland to make the scoreline 3-0.

There was simply no stopping Chelsea and Morata now, just five minutes later, a ball into the box was chested down by Azpilicueta, into the path of Morata who, tucked it away completing his first hat-trick in a Chelsea shirt. It`s fair to say his move to Stamford Bridge has gone pretty well so far. That`s six in six for the ex Real Madrid man plus the two assists.

By this point Stoke, for all their effort, had been well and truly stuffed. A telling stat at the end of the game show`s how off their game they were. Chelsea made 14 fouls to Stoke`s meagre 4 during the whole game. Sad times for the Potters.

  • This victory over Stoke City was emphatic and enjoyable considering the fact they beat Arsenal and held Man U. Yeah I longed for a win but I didn’t think we’d beat them that easily. Someone argued that it was due to the absence of K Zouma. Partly it was but this win was somehow comfortable from the moment Morata’s goal set us off. Anyways, Onwards and Upwards and remember to KTBFFH.

  • Another wonderful win, though we were luck Alonso did not go off , Cahill was a concern ,almost gave away a pen, TBO i was worried there . Bringing on Fab and Hazard changed the game and we put Stoke on a rope .Crouch should have seen red,did not even go for the ball . But all in all a great road win .

  • Very happy for the progress Morata has made thus far. A clinical dusplay in front of goal today. I thought Kante was huge as always. With Hazard yet to start I see Chelsea silencing the Mancs, especially United who’s yet to play any of last season’s top 5

  • This is the first time hazard has played in the league with fabrigas, with 11men on the pitch and Morata scores a hat trick especially a tap in. Can’t wait for them to play about 5 games together. For Wilian he is as useless as his captain.

  • So Morata scores his first three goals with the head, gears up for scoring with the legs; and he does it with ease and beauty.. all hail ALVARO!!!

  • crouch should have been off!!!! chelsea players were dismissed for lesser offences and they say there is no bias!

  • Good win and 3 points. After the subs we took control. Till then we were all over the place despite leading. Alonso had a meltdown. Cahill induced panic after coming on. Conte has decisions to make for Atletico and City. Very pleased for Morata. Rare to see chelsea strikers score hattricks. #upthechels

  • Bakayoko still needs improvement offensively. He should release the ball earlier like Kante & Fabregas. He has a bright future with CFC.

  • Spot on @unclezillion i always maintain that the refs seems to have something against Chelsea players. Whether their actions was out of hate, give the reds unfair advantage or lack of core English players in our starting eleven etc. I can recall this is the fifth time in six games that horrific shin-high challenges on Chelsea players have not been red-carded. Arfield, Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen, Idris said Gueye and now Peter Crouch. Is there no way the club will make a formal complaint to the FA that the actions of these refs is undermining spirit of fare competition?

  • Delighted for Morata, thought we were a bit disorganised at the back at times however, three points in the bag. Hughes’ post match analysis seemed to focus on Alonso not the career ending tackle by Crouch. Why Crouch was not given a straight red is beyond me anyway, onwards & upwards we go next stop Athletic Madrid.

  • Mourinho’s response that his side played defensive & negative football away to Southampton: “It is not always possible to operate at high quality but we fought hard. After all we did what many teams in the Premier League do for 90 minutes, which was play with five defenders at the back…….Nobody feels the pressure to play always attacking football because so many teams play always defensively”. Classic Jose! I bet this guy’s love in with the rags will be over sooner rather than later, especially when results start going south. Mtcheeeeeeeww!

  • Morata is certainly proved he is no Torres and 6 goals in 6 Premier League games is obviously phenomenal. However, if he is going to lead us to a title he is going to have to produce the goods against the top 6 teams. So far twice against Arsenal and once against Spurs he has not been great. He has two opportunities in the coming week to show he can score for Chelsea against top teams. Hopefully he scores – especially against Man City. Also, why is it any bad tackle by a Chelsea player result in straight red but we have watched Spurs and now Stoke players do the same to Chelsea and no red is produced? Anyway, since the first half against Burnley we have only conceded an own goal and a penalty. Can we hold Man City at bay next week? If we are going to retain our title we really need to be winning that game.

  • We are getting some good results in our defence of the tittle which probably is surprising some people but as someone said real test sat against city they are flying and for me are the real threat for our tittle I wish we had luis available

  • If we win all our games against the so called small clubs, we can be certain to finish in the top 4. I remember a particular season when Man utd under Ferguson didn’t win a single game against the top 4 teams and yet went ahead to take the title.

  • so morata is one 3 goals with his head
and 3 goals with his foot, plus 2 assist with his head
    what an amazing stats…
