Off the pitch, it has not been a good month for Chelsea Football Club.
April has not only seen the passing of the legend that was Ray Wilkins, but we also lost the legend that was Roy Bentley, a player who had the distinction of captaining the very first Chelsea side to win the top-flight title, back in 1955.
At the Liberty Stadium, in Swansea, it was pleasing to see that Roy’s memory was honoured before the kick-off when applause rang around the stadium.
It should be remembered that as well as having had a glittering career with Chelsea, Roy also managed Swansea and during his managerial career helped the Welsh club to a promotion.
Next Sunday, Chelsea entertain Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, it’ll give the Chelsea faithful the chance to remember a Chelsea legend, but here at Vital Chelsea we’d like to thank Swansea for setting the ball rolling yesterday.
Roy Bentley – RIP
