As we prepare to take on Manchester City, in a Premier League match, I thought I`d delve into the archives for two memorable clashes between the teams.
With Premier League fixtures a no-go as far as videos being embedded, I`ve gone back in time, well over thirty years in fact.
The first match I`ve chosen is the Full Members Cup Final from 1985. It was a little known competition that didn`t attract the big boys but had a Wembley Final as its show-piece. However its importance can probably be grasped by the fact Chelsea had to play Southampton (a) in the league the day before the final.
But Wembley was treated to a classic encounter, as you can see from the clip below:-
The second clip, and one you may well have seen before, comes from our 1988/1989 promotion season, a season that saw us regain our top flight status, having lost to Middlesbrough in the play-off final the year before.
It was to be another classic encounter.
