Hard on the back of a disappointing result against Wycombe Wanderers, we asked you, our readership, if you believed the performance given by the team was acceptable or not!

With so many injuries to the first team squad allied with a couple of suspensions obviously being viewed as contributing factors in the starting eleven selection, it’s no surprise that the eventual line up didn’t look too familiar.

However, with Arsenal’s youngsters highlighting the strength in depth at Cashburden Grove and raising the bar to a new level with regard to squad performance, should we have expected more from the eleven that represented Chelsea at Adams Park?

Our own view, here at Vital Chelsea, is that only a minority of players gave a performance becoming of the occasion with Bridge, Essien and Ashley Cole falling into that category. The rest either didn’t seem to know how to keep possession, how to find space or how to cope with the pressure applied to them when they had the ball.

Surprisingly, Mourinho viewed events slightly differently preferring to edge away from the edict of directing a little bit of personal criticism that we witnessed over the festive season. Instead this is what he had to say,

‘Under the circumstances, it’s a good result for us.’

‘I’m happy with the result, I’m happy with the effort but you always want more from the performance.”

‘I cannot criticise Michael Essien and Paulo Ferreira for the goal. For people who never play in that position I thought they did very well.”

‘But maybe at Stamford Bridge we will have some central attackers.”

‘I’m still confident we can reach the final.’

However, whilst agreeing that an appearance in the Carling Cup Final is a probability unless the unlikely happens, the results from the poll indicate that you were very finely split in the poll with the results coming out as follows

Acceptable – 47%

Unacceptable – 53%

Once again thanks for your continued support.
