Opinion: Chelsea Make The Right Decision Not To Keep This Player

|

The Chelsea career of Mateo Kovacic appears to be over after just one season with the club.

The 25-year-old Croatian midfielder brought to the club initially on loan, is set to return to Spain.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea will not be exercising the option in the loan deal to make the move permanent.

Last season, Kovacic made fifty-one appearances for Chelsea but in how many of those games did you feel he dominated the midfielder and proved to be the talent we hoped he’d be when news of his loan signing broke last summer?

Perhaps his best game for the club was in the Europa League Final, in Baku, but was it a case of too little too late, had the decision to let him return to Real Madrid already been taken?

Probably the most damning statistic of those fifty-one appearances, in all competitions, he made for Chelsea, is that he only provided TWO assists in the Premier League.

Personally, I’m not bothered about the news, I feel that with Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount in the squad we have more than ample midfield talent on our books, plus we shouldn’t forget that Tiemoue Bakayoko is also keen on a return to Stamford Bridge.
