A Good Run of Form

I was just thinking, every club has a ban run of form in a season.

It’s what we keep telling Spurs fans, convincing them (and ourselves) that they will eventually have a dip in form, but does every team have a good run of form during a season?

I think back to the last two season, in 09/10, we had a flying start, winning our first six games, then at Christmas we had our typical winter slump in form, then from late March onwards we won 7 out of 8 games, playing some terrific football along the way to the title.

Then I think back to 10/11. We had a great run of form at the start of the season, then we had a catastrophic winter of bad form, and then our form eventually picked up and we had a very good March.

Every year we seem to have a slump in form as well as one or two very good runs of form. Now we’ve had our slump, we’ve had two slumps in fact. I’ve lost count of which ‘bad moment’ we are in now.

But I’ve been thinking, Have we had a good run of form this season?

Not really is the answer. Three good results against Valencia, Newcastle and Man City is not enough, for me, to warrant ‘a good run’. We did have a decent run back in September-October, beating Swansea 4-1, Bolton 5-1, Genk 5-0 and Everton 3-1. But in these games, aside from Bolton, have we been particularly outstanding. Not to mention in between these fixtures was a disappointing performance and a draw at Valencia.

My point here is that we are yet to experience a good run of form and results. We have not had a run where we have won consistently and battered each team in the process, like we have done in seasons past.

Is this a good sign or a bad sign?

It could be a good sign, because if we are yet to hit top gear in our season and remain 4th in the table, who knows where we could launch ourselves to following a good run of form? But it could also be a bad sign as if we have not hit top form yet, will we ever?

Is this team capable of winning 5 or 6 on the trot?

You decide. I apologise for taking so long to get to the point.
