How to play ball with Gary Cahill

Ok so the window has been open 4 days and already this transfer appears to be drawn out farther than it needs.

Let’s have a quick look at the situation surrounding Gary Cahill.

He’s made it perfectly clear that he wants to leave Bolton. Ever since his first international call-up, he has dreamed of a bigger club. He’s shown by running out the time on his current contract that he does not feel Bolton has the resources to meet his demands.

He’s currently on £50,000 a week. That’s a princely sum already and with this possible transfer he is hoping to increase that. But how much should we pay him? We’re already shelling out £7million for a player with only 6 months left at his club. He’s free in 6 months time…

In my opinion, if this player really wants a pay-rise then we look into the £7million that we were going to spend to acquire him and use £5million of it to increase his weekly salary come the summer when he’s a free agent.

If he wants to hold out for more money then we can offer it to him a la Ballack (althought nowhere near as much!!) when he comes to us in July. If not… jog on.

This club is bigger than Gary Cahill and will not be held ransom by him. I’d far rather see Nathanial Chalobah play the rest of the season at CB than pay Cahill over £70,000 a week.

Save the £7million Roman and use it a deposit for Eden Hazard. Or use it to get a player who does want to play for this club… Kevin DeBruyne. Oh and bring Kalas home as back up.
