A few days ago, the insinuation was made that Chelsea had run into problems with regards to the rebuilding of Stamford Bridge.

It appeared that a family who live in the vicinity of Stamford Bridge, the Crosthwaites, were seriously aggrieved that the building of the new stadium would affect the natural lighting that would usually fall on their dwelling.

Despite offers of compensation, from Chelsea, the family have been steadfast in their refusal to do a deal.

However, at a Hammersmith and Fulham Council meeting, a motion was passed that prevents an injunction blocking Chelsea`s plans.

It would appear the council agreed to acquire the land at Stamford Bridge, ensuring the injunction is not valid.

The land will then be leased back to Chelsea Football Club, leaving it free from any court injunction.

The deal will, it seems, only come into effect if Chelsea cannot do a deal with the Crosthwaites.

Furthermore, the family have no legal right to challenge the council but could, if they feel the need, seek a judicial review.

To some the decision may seem harsh, but when has sentiment ever got in the way of progress?
