Marcos Alonso made his debut for the Spanish national side during the last week, on Sunday he has a game every bit as big in his sights.

Currently five points behind Tottenham in fifth place, defeat would all but finish Chelsea`s chances of a top-four spot. Speaking to Sky Sports it`s something Alonso is fully aware of,

‘It is definitely a must-win game. Here at Chelsea, we have to fight until the end for every target we can achieve, and next year we have to be in the Champions League. On Sunday, we have to get a win.”

‘It’s a massive game. We have a very important target, which is arriving at the end of the season in top four. Starting on Sunday, it’s the first important three points for us.”

‘It’s not over until it`s mathematically impossible, but it would be very difficult for sure if we lost.’

There`s no denying how important Sunday`s game is to both teams. It`s not an unusual occurrence though, previous encounters have also had a lot riding them, none more so than in 2016.

With Tottenham chasing Leicester City for the title, anything but a win would see the Foxes victorious, becoming Premier League Champions for the first time. Spurs took a 2-0 first-half lead, before goals from Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard contributed to a Tottenham meltdown that handed Leicester the big prize.

Spurs would relish turning Chelsea over on Sunday afternoon, something Alonso and his teammates would do well to remember.
