Yesterday we reported that Barça were considering Hernán Crespo. Today it appears that Eidur Gudjohnsen is also on their shopping list.

On Monday morning, Barça top brass will meet to beginning planning for next season. One of the key questions will be to examine which striker to sign, as Henrik Larsson is leaving and Maxi Lopez is likely to be loaned out.

A number of names are on the list. We spoke yesterday of Hernán Crespo, and Villarreal?s Diego Forlán is considered to be the favoured option. Others, however, are Zaragoza?s Diego Milito, not to mention David Trezeguet y Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The latter two play at Juventus, and given the turmoil surrounding Italian football in general and Juve in particular, many players might be looking to make a quick escape from the Serie A.

But today it appears that Eidur Gudjohnsen is also on the shortlist, particularly if Forlán can?t be prised away from Villarreal. His adaptability to a number of positions and roles on the pitch (he?s spent the past two seasons mainly as a striker converted into an offensive midfielder). Barça are especially interested in a player who would be the understudy for Samuel Eto?o, or for any number of players in the Barça squad. The work he puts in for the team as a whole is also very much appreciated. Also helpful is his age (28 in September).

Barça have noted that Eidur is likely to be allowed to leave, since his playing time has decreased over the past 3 seasons; Michael Ballack?s arrival is likely to push him even further down the pecking order. Gudjohnson himself is aware of this, which is why he has said that he?s considering his options. Which includes envisaging a possible departure.

As with Crespo, however, the Spanish media speculate whether José Mourinho would sanction a sale to Barcelona, given all the bad blood between the two sides. The conclusion drawn is that the Chelsea coach would probably make it difficult.

We think that such suggestions are very petty. On the contrary, José appreciates the dedication of his players, and should a member of the Chelsea squad really not be happy with his playing time, José is not likely to stand in their way. If it is to another country, we think he?d be fairly understanding.
