With all the major transfer targets snapped up, could Chelsea be set to turn to a young striker that netted 19 Premier League goals last season?
Rumours are rife that Chelsea are set to do battle with Spurs for the signature of the 22 year-old Belgian international Christian Benteke.
Benteke shocked Aston Villa by handing in an official transfer request, an act that has brought the following public statement from the Midlands club,
“We have informed him that should we receive an offer within the appropriate time-frame during pre-season which meets our valuation we would act upon it. But he`ll remain a Villa player should this not happen.”
Benteke`s action, in asking for a transfer, has seen him, so reports say, not being taken on Villa`s pre-season tour and it remains to be seen if our reputed £30 million interest in the player is enough to see off the interest expressed by Spurs whilst also tempting Villa into parting with their prized asset.
