As the clock moved towards 23:00 hours last night, it looked as if Chelsea were not going to be able to add to their midfield department.

But, just as we`d all given up hope, news filtered through that Chelsea Football Club had signed Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City.

Drinkwater, aware that his desire to join the current Premier League champions was slipping away, handed in a transfer request, earlier in the day, to try and force the issue.

The ploy worked as a deal was eventually struck between the two clubs that will see a transfer fee of £35 million exchange hands.

Drinkwater, 27-years-of-age, was part of the Leicester City side that stormed to the 2015 / 2016 Premier League title, playing alongside N`Golo Kante, in the middle of the park.

An England international, Drinkwater should add something extra to the side and provide the depth we were lacking in midfield.

In Leicester`s title winning season, Drinkwater played in 35 of the 38 games, he is currently side-lined with a thigh injury but upon finally joining Chelsea Football Club, the midfielder had this to say to the media,

‘I’m delighted to be a Chelsea player and can’t wait to get started.

‘It has been a long journey to get here but I am very happy and am looking forward to helping the club win more trophies.’

Here at Vital Chelsea we`d like to welcome Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea Football Club.
