Keep those fingers crossed that Ashley Cole`s magical night at Wembley, where he finally reached the 100 caps mark, doesn`t hamper our chances, against Wigan this Saturday.

Ashley, who received a great reception form the Wembley crowd, was taken off at half-time with a niggling injury that appeared to come from his hamstring area.

Speaking about what, we hope, was a precautionary measure, Roy Hodgson is quoted in the morning press a shaving remarked,

“I wasn`t intending to take Ashley off at half-time.”

“But he was feeling a problem in his hamstring, which may actually be coming from his back.”

“He would have soldiered on if it was a qualifier but I didn`t want to send him back to Chelsea injured.”

Nice sentiments Roy and one that our under-fire gaffer, Rafa Benitiez , will surely appreciate, but what did Ashley make of the memorable occasion?

Offering a few comments to the media, Ashley is quoted as having remarked,

“I was disappointed to come off but it was a good team performance. When I got out there it was not about me any more, it was playing against a world-class team and getting a win.”

“I was emotional at the start. I want to thank the fans as I didn`t expect the reception I got. It was very nice and I`m overwhelmed, speechless.”

As somebody who has started in every one of these 100 appearances, Ashley, in our opinion, deserves all the accolades he gets!
