Another Lampard article you might groan, well those who don`t know a good thing when they see it!

Last night, as England entertained Brazil in a prestigious friendly, as part of the Football Association`s 150th birthday celebrations, it was Frank Lampard who came off the bench, for the second half, who scored England`s winner.

Frank latched onto a loose ball and hit a curling, first-time shot that eluded the Brazilian keeper, Julio Cesar, to nestle in the top corner. It was a goal of sublime quality and was a stunning winner for such a fixture.

The goal was also Frank`s fifth in the last five games, albeit two coming from the penalty spot, it was also his 27th goal of his England career, a career that the current England boss, Roy Hodgson, feels can stretch to 100 caps with Roy remarking to the media afterwards,

“I think Frank can reach 100 caps.”

If Frank can reach 100 caps it will be a fitting tribute to a player that has always given his best when pulling on the famous England shirt. But those hopes, as Roy adds further, could be hampered by a move away from Europe, with Roy Hodgson almost pleading,

“I hope we keep him in Europe.”

“It is not for me to discuss his future with the club, but I know he will have a lot of offers if Chelsea are prepared to let him go.”

“I would rather hope we still see him in Europe. That would make my task easier.”

There are many of us Roy who would hope that Frank gets to stay at Chelsea in some capacity or other.

As for Frank, when interviewed after the game about his goal and the performance of the team in beating Brazil, simply commented,

“We`ve proved we can beat anyone on our day.”

“The important thing now is consistency in group matches.”

It is, but I`ll finish on another point.

With Steven Gerrard on 101 caps and with Frank Lampard closing in on a century of caps, they`re not doing too badly for a couple of players that many reckoned couldn`t play together, are they?
