With Chelsea not playing until Monday evening, when they make the short trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford, Antonio Conte still stuck to a Friday for his pre-match press conference.

On the back of the 3-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth, on Wednesday night, and the subsequent battle to bring in players of his choice in the transfer window, there was always going to be one topic the media hacks were going to try and exert some sensational headlines from, Conte`s future.

But the boss didn`t rise to the bait and when the question was asked, he gave the impression he was willing to stay and at least see his current contract out with Conte remarking to the assembled press hounds,

‘From the start of this season there have been a lot of speculation and rumours around me.

‘The only thing I can tell you now is I still have 18 months of contract with Chelsea. My intention, my will, is to respect the contract.

‘We signed a three-year contract. I think our desire is to continue our work.

‘This season, the situation has always been the same, with a lot of pressure, and I don’t understand why, always around me. Maybe it is because this is Chelsea. This is the only answer I’m having.

‘But the pressure is normal. When the situation is too calm, you risk being relaxed and losing the anger, the fire. I like to live with this pressure.’

So, are we to take it everything really is tickety-boo behind the scenes?
