On Monday evening, Chelsea play West Bromwich Albion in a Premier League fixture.

Previously, fixtures against West Bromwich Albion have had ominous ramifications as far as managers of Chelsea have been concerned.

Both Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto Di Matteo have been axed after fixtures against the Baggies.

However, despite Antonio Conte presiding over three defeats in his last four games, we`d be very surprised if the board decided to axe the Italian now.

Indeed, it is a train of thought that the respected news source, The Telegraph shares with our referenced source inferring that the parting of the ways will come in the summer.

Furthermore, this particular source is inferring that Chelsea are angling for Conte to leave the club by mutual consent rather than wielding the axe.

However, you get the feeling that Antonio wants to retain his post and isn`t the kind of guy to concur with the above plans.

Indeed, in another source, The Observer, there are some remarks attributed to Conte that suggest the Italian wants time to continue the task he has started, with Conte remarking,

“You continue to work with a manager or coach not because of what he achieves in one season but because you trust in him.

“Then you build something with him.

“But it doesn`t mean you have to win something, because that`s not simple. Not easy. Especially in England. The way I look at it, you can win a trophy but, at the same time, the club might not be happy to stay with you. In that case, they might consider it`s right to send the coach away. At the same time, you can trust in a coach and his work and continue with him even if you don`t win, and try and build something important.

“There are two ways. There is a stupid way and an intelligent way. This is my opinion. At the same time, I have great respect for everyone`s opinion. If the club decides to send me away, I don`t know when, it`ll be because they`re not happy with my work. As you know very well, my contract expires in 2019. From my point of view, there is the will to stay and continue to work for this club.”

Here at Vital Chelsea, we`ve often used the word longevity when it comes to a managerial reign, but the big question now remains whether Chelsea will revert to type and add Conte`s name to the list of ex-managers the club has used and abused!
