Did You Know – Huddersfield Town (a)

|

Fear not, this afternoon, away to Huddersfield Town, is going to be a breeze!

Well, that’s what the record books would seem to imply.

In the first of our ‘Did You Know?’ series this season, we’ve come up with a few facts that seem to indicate that Chelsea will return south with the three points on offer this afternoon, against Huddersfield.

Did You Know?

1 – The last time Chelsea lost against Huddersfield Town was way back in March 1963, in a Division Two game at Stamford Bridge.

2 – The last time Chelsea lost to Huddersfield Town in a top-flight game was back in October 1954 when we were beaten 1-0 at Leeds Road, their old ground, that season Chelsea, captained by Roy Bentley, went on to lift the title.

3 – Chelsea very rarely lose their opening fixture of a new season, the statistics show that in the last 19 seasons they’ve won 15 drawn 3 and lost 1, the solitary defeat coming against Burnley, at Stamford Bridge, last season.

4 – Chelsea quite like playing in Yorkshire, their last 8 ventures there have seen them win 6 and draw 2. Their last loss in the county of the white rose was back in 2002 when they were beaten 2-0 by Leeds United.

But, bringing one last statistic to the fore:

Our gaffer, Maurizio Sarri, has lost the last two opening fixtures when it comes to occupying top-flight jobs, losing with Empoli and Napoli in 2014 and 2015.

Up the Chels!
