Don?t Panic Mr Mainwaring

Despite the pressure starting to mount as we seek back-2-back Premiership titles, things remain relatively calm at Chelsea.

Whilst there may be a certain degree of clamouring for the squad to be locked away at the Cobham Training Centre honing their skills in preparation for a monumental run in, those in charge think otherwise.

Indeed, after the, shall we say, disappointing result at St Andrews, the first team squad have been given two days off to recharge their batteries. With no midweek match it is a managerial move that Mourinho has often favoured in the past.

The man himself has, despite continuous pressure form the media, already stated that there is no cause for alarm. Obviously aware of the dip in away form, he calmly announced that if we win the three homes we have left, we will be Champions and that there will be no need to take any points from our away fixtures.

Frank Lampard, has also re-iterated the point that there is no need to panic and has categorically denied that our recent run of form has nothing to do with our Champions League exit to Barcelona.

In the build up to the Birmingham game, Joe Cole had suggested that the title could be won, with four back to back victories, before the important FA Cup semi final against Liverpool. Sadly that is now not likely to happen.

We?re also fairly certain that we?re not going to pass through the magical 100 point barrier, indeed, if my basic mathematics are current, it?s already impossible.

However, with the confidence in the squad apparently running very high, the message we should all heed perhaps should run along the lines of

“Don?t panic Mr Mainwaring”

If so would it be churlish to call Ferguson and his troops the Fuzzy-Wuzzys?

As for the mythical 100 points, lets just say as long as we finish ahead of the Salford lot I?ll be happy.
