Dreams of bitter Spurs fans

I’ve decided to write a little piece just to shatter the fervent hopes and dreams of Spurs fans everywhere…. Like a dodgy lasagne.

The dream appears to be that, basically, you are looking forward to the day that ‘the money goes away’ and ‘Red Rom gets bored and leaves. It is probably a similar feeling to when you were a teenager, wishing for your first sexual encounter. You think it?s going to happen, eventually, not soon, but some day, and when it does it is going to be amazing, and the best 15 seconds of your life. You may not wish to acknowledge the fact when you look in the mirror, but there seems to be some MAJOR preventative factors in place before your little dream happens.

Much like the long-awaited sexual encounter for most of you, the dream will never materialise. Mr Abramovich owns the club. In order for him to walk away, get bored, lose interest etc, he would have to write off the club as an asset and dump it, or have someone come in and buy it. If someone came in to buy us, it wouldn?t be to get our property, as that is not worth a big enough portion of the asset strength of the company, so if anyone came in, it would be run us as a football club, i.e.: more investment, which means more waiting for you. Mr A wont leave. How can he? Rather like your dodgy pulling lines and choice of Hai Karate for aftershave, you really haven?t thought this through have you? Think about it. He has spent hundreds of millions, and he would have to write this off. You see him at every game – he is a big fan of the club and goes to every game. He is true blue. Is he likely to leave? No. Does that stop you wishing? No. Thing is he isn?t going to walk away because of all the money he’s spent, the fact that he loves the club in his own quiet Russian way, and the fact that he’s promised the club to his son when he is old enough. One of Mr Abramovich’s closest friends, Eugene Tenenbaum, is our Chairman. He is backed by a long list of American investment banks and is ostensibly Roman’s ‘top man’ from the vast oil and aluminium empire that Mr Abramovich has. Hardly the actions of someone not committed to the club now is it?

So what happens when the Russians arrest him and lock him up/shoot him/send him(back)to Siberia for the various things you all wish he had done? Another sticking point. Problem is that Mr Abramovich doesn?t actually own CFC by name. Its owned through a series of holding companies, and Mr Abramovich’s name does not appear on the company documents. They cant seize Chelsea or freeze our assets, as much as you lie awake at night obsessing about us, wishing it would happen.

We have no debt. If he leaves us he leaves us debt free, or, in Spurs-fan terms – in a better financial position than you. Or Liverpool. Or Man United. Or Arsenal. Or Newcastle etc. We have one of the best teams in the world, and have the best manager in the world at the helm. Its not like its total annihilation now is it?

I would suggest that you lower your expectations a bit.

CFC is here to stay, so is Roman Abramovich and all his money, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Much like your age-old wishes for some kind of sexual contact, any kind at all, anything, this is one dream that will never come true. You’ll have to make do with lying alone at night wishing for it to happen with a box of Kleenex, because that?s the closest you are ever going to get, I?m sorry to say.

Much as its not good to obsess about having sex, also I don?t think its very healthy to keep on obsessing about Chelsea.

It will make you go blind you know!
