When the end came for Jose Mourinho during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, one Avram Grant took over.

The Israeli lasted a mere eight months in charge before he was axed but during his time in charge Grant took Chelsea to a League Cup final, which unfortunately we lost to Spurs and also to a Champions League Final in Moscow, which we lost in a dramatic penalty shoot-out on a rainy night.

With Mourinho`s position at Chelsea Football Club looking rocky, Grant has given an insight into how Roman Abramovich operates when it comes to liaising with his managers with Avram quoted as having remarked,

‘Normally Roman gives the manager space.

‘He’s not day-by-day wanting to know what’s happening. He’s not a guy who will pick up the phone every five minutes and ask what you are doing. Even when the situation is not so good he will want to show everything is calm.

‘Jose is a great manager – he was before and he still is now. He’s a good manager, so then comes the mental side. He needs to speak with the players and know what the problem is. Then close the gap between the potential and the quality. Jose needs to continue and solve the problems.

‘He has done well in the past and deserves more time.’

Yes, Jose probably does, but will he be given it is the $64,000 question!
